In a move to make its singles more marketable, CTI replaced its green-label 500 series in 1971 with the OJ series. Sporting an orange label to match CTI's recently redesigned LP label format (used on CTI singles through 1979), the OJ series - which, according to Creed Taylor, stands for "original jazz" - became the predominant series for all vinyl singles CTI issued through 1983. Only three of the 16 singles issued in the 500 series ("Sugar," "Here's That Rainy Day" and "Fire And Rain") were reissued in the OJ series. However, the master numbers in the earlier series continued through the ninth single in the OJ series, after which the RVG numbering system (started in the Kudu series of singles) was instituted. Please note, promotional issue singles are listed only when master numbers differ from the regular issue single in some way.
